Porsche 924S 944 968 H-beam connecting rods (set of 4)

€680,00

Porsche 924S 944 968 H-beam connecting rods set of 4

This set consists of four lightweight H-beam connecting rods for Porsche 924S, 944, and 968 engines. The connecting rods have a center-to-center length of 150 mm and come with ARP connecting rod bolts.

The H-beam connecting rods are suitable for professional engine rebuilding and for building a stronger performance engine. Each set is weight-selected and balanced with a maximum mutual difference of 0.2 grams.

The connecting rods can be combined with our separately available slim-fit piston pins measuring 24 x 66.85 mm. The piston pins are not included with this connecting rod set.

In combination with the slim-fit piston pins, the reciprocating mass is greatly reduced. The original connecting rod with piston pin weighs about 989 grams per cylinder. The new H-beam connecting rod with slim-fit piston pin weighs about 753 grams.

This results in a weight saving of approximately 236 grams per cylinder and 944 grams per four-cylinder engine.

Suitable for

  • Porsche 924S: all 2.5-liter engines

  • Porsche 944: all 2.5- and 2.7-liter engines

  • Porsche 944 S: 2.5 16V

  • Porsche 944 S2: 3.0 16V

  • Porsche 944 Turbo: all 2.5 Turbo engines

  • Porsche 968: 3.0, model years 1992-1995

  • Set size: four connecting rods

For a Porsche 924S, 944, or 968, one set of four connecting rods is required.

Replaces part number

These H-beam connecting rods can, depending on the Porsche model and engine type, be used as a replacement for or alternative to:

Important fitment information

The connecting rods have a center-to-center length of 150 mm and a piston pin bushing for a piston pin with a diameter of 24 mm.

The matching slim-fit piston pins have a size of 24 x 66,85 mmThese piston pins are sold separately and are not included with this connecting rod set.

The connecting rods must be installed as a complete and mutually weighed set. Do not combine one new H-beam connecting rod with used original connecting rods without precise checking.

Benefits of this product

  • Complete set of four H-beam connecting rods.

  • Suitable for Porsche 924S, 944, and 968.

  • Includes ARP connecting rod bolts.

  • Center-to-center length of 150 mm.

  • Suitable for piston pins with a diameter of 24 mm.

  • Balanced with a maximum of 0.2 grams weight difference between rods.

  • Made of 40CrNiMoA.

  • Steel.

  • Shot-peened for better resistance to variable loads.

  • Hardness of HRC 33-38.

  • New piston pin bushing instead of a worn original bushing.

  • Lighter construction than the original connecting rods.

  • Suitable for engine overhaul and performance engine building.

  • Up to 944 grams weight savings per four-cylinder engine in combination with the slim-fit piston pins.

  • Prevents straightening and re-bushing of damaged original connecting rods.

  • New slim-fit piston pins are available separately.

During our own dyno test, the engine responded faster to the accelerator pedal and about 20 Nm extra torque was measured. Also, the dips in the torque curve around 3,000 and 4,000 rpm disappeared on this test engine.

The measured result may vary per engine and depends on the engine condition and other installed parts.

When should the connecting rods be replaced?

Replacement is advisable when:

  • The engine is completely overhauled.

  • An original connecting rod is bent or twisted.

  • The piston pin bushing is worn.

  • There is clearance between the piston pin and connecting rod.

  • A connecting rod is damaged due to a defective connecting rod bearing.

  • The engine is being built for higher load.

  • The original piston pins are worn or damaged.

  • The moving engine parts need to be made lighter.

  • The original connecting rods differ too much in weight from each other.

A bent connecting rod or worn piston pin bushing is not always visible to the naked eye. Therefore, have the original connecting rods professionally measured during an engine overhaul.

Assembly information

The connecting rods connect the pistons to the crankshaft. For assembly, the engine must be largely or completely disassembled.

Check during assembly:

  • The diameter and roundness of the crank journals.

  • The condition and size of the connecting rod bearings.

  • The fit of the piston pins.

  • The direction in which the connecting rods are installed.

  • The direction in which the pistons are installed.

  • The weight of each complete piston, piston pin, and connecting rod assembly.

  • The lateral

  • Clearance of the connecting rods.

  • The size and roundness of the big-end bearing housing.

  • The clearance between the connecting rods and other engine components.

Have the complete moving parts professionally inspected and balanced when the connecting rods, pistons, or piston pins are replaced.

When installing in a Porsche 928, the crankshaft must be rebalanced based on the actual weights of the new parts.
