Description:
With this new adjustable camshaft sprocket, the camshaft timing can be adjusted. By adjusting this timing, the torque curve is shifted, causing maximum torque to be reached earlier or later.
Many current engines have had the cylinder head rebuilt and resurfaced, sometimes several times. This causes the cylinder head to sit slightly lower, retarding the timing. This sprocket can be used to correct the timing. In addition, not all current sprockets are produced exactly alike; there are minor differences in the position of the key.
When using a special camshaft or making other engine modifications, this adjustable camshaft sprocket is essential.
This adjustment can shift the engine speed at which maximum torque is produced, affecting the driving characteristics.
For racing use, the torque can be shifted to a higher engine speed for greater top-end power (toward the 2-degree setting).
For road use, a lower engine speed can be selected for higher torque in the 2,000 to 3,500 rpm operating range (toward the 4-degree setting).
You do not need to visit a rolling road for adjustment; you can adjust it safely yourself and experience the difference.
We designed this camshaft sprocket for all 8-valve 2.5-liter engines in the 924S and 944 8V (Turbo) Porsche engines.
Adjustability
The sprocket can be adjusted while mounted on the camshaft. The sprocket is designed so that no modifications are required to, for example, the timing cover.
The sprocket is adjustable across a total range of -4° to +5° camshaft timing This is the maximum adjustment you need. There is no point in turning the sprocket further in either direction, because you will no longer achieve maximum torque. It is not possible to turn the sprocket far enough for the valves to contact the pistons, which could cause engine damage.
To make adjustment easy, degree markings are provided on the sprocket so you can see which adjustment you have set.
Material
By using the original sprocket, we can offer a more affordable alternative to other suppliers. This actually has only advantages, because the tooth specifications do not differ from the original and the required quality is maintained.
The sprocket core is made from high-quality steel that is stronger than the steel originally used for the sprocket. The weak point of the original sprocket was always the key, which can tear out due to incorrect installation or high loads.
The sprocket is secured with four high-quality 10.9 M8 bolts, ensuring that the two components are clamped together firmly.
