Install the Remap Chip in a 944 ECU (Tips and Tricks)

924S : The ECU is located under the steering wheel (924S).

944 phase 2: The ECU is located behind the passenger side footwell.

Open the ECU by bending the small metal tabs. Remove the steel cover.

You see two circuit boards. The upper panel needs to be separated from the lower. At the rear where the connector pins are, you can carefully pull to open the pins. This is a pin inside another pin; push open with thumb and finger. If opened, pull a little backward and the circuit boards will separate. You can leave them attached with the flat cable.

This is your kit: 2x 2-pin connectors and a jumper wire for B700 and matched injectors.

Extra pins to be soldered in place.
All ECUs from 1987 and later do not need soldering as the EPROM already has 28 pins. You can simply exchange the EPROM.

Removing the EPROM is a delicate job. Use a very small flat screwdriver and gently lift the front and the backside evenly millimeter by millimeter to avoid bending the legs.

Extra pins to be soldered on the front. The holes are already in the circuit board.

Check the backside of the soldering; use a magnifier.

Jumper wire here.

Yes, here!

FQS is malfunctioning; you can set it to zero or any other position.

Remove the old performance connector (if attached) on the wiring loom, close to the DME connector. The combination with our Remap EPROM will not work.

Install the REMAP chip with the small notch facing outward. Be very careful and check that all legs go into the corresponding small holes. You can use your fingernail to push them into the correct position.

Only when all legs are good should you slowly push down the EPROM.

Now you can test with the connector attached inside the car. If the car starts and runs, then the soldering is good. Now you can rebuild everything.

If it does not work, check the soldering and the position of the EPROM.

You can also send the ECU to us so we can check it for you and make the repair; the charge will be 50 euros or a maximum of 100 euros if it is really damaged.
