The H-Beam is delivered including ARP bolts. Tightening torque 75Nm
Balanced to 0.2 grams.
Made of 400CrNiMoa, Shot Peening, and an HRC33-38
Center to center 150mm,
New H-Beam connecting rods designed with new piston pin bushings. This H-beam shaped connecting rod is lighter and stronger than the original. The combination of 4 connecting rods and 4 piston pins results in a total weight saving of (how ironic) 944 grams.
Weight original set: connecting rod + piston pin = 989 gr
Weight new set: H-Beam + Slim fit piston pin = 753 gr
Total difference (983-753) x 4 = 236 x 4 = 944 grams
Weight saving of 944 grams on complete set (H-Beam + piston pin)
Torque increase approx. 20Nm
By reducing the rotating weight, the engine's torque increases enormously.
The engine revs faster. We measured a gain of about 20Nm on the Dyno with these connecting rods.
Many old engines run only about 170Nm due to wear. The MAF adds about 20Nm to that and this new combination adds another 20Nm. This way, we squeezed 215Nm torque out of an old engine with 250,000 km using MAF+REMAP+H-Beam (std = 205Nm).
Moreover, the well-known dips in the torque curve at 3000 rpm and 4000 rpm have completely disappeared. So the gain in Nm is even stronger there.
The original connecting rods are strong and heavy. During overhaul, it often turns out that a connecting rod is somewhat bent and the piston pin bushing is worn. To correct this during an overhaul, the connecting rod must be straightened and the piston pin bushing replaced and reamed to size. The cost for this is easily 70 euros each. Original piston pins are no longer available or only at a high price. Are you going to reuse the old piston pin?
