Description:
With this new adjustable camshaft sprocket, the camshaft timing can be adjusted. By adjusting this timing, the torque band shifts position, causing the maximum torque to be reached earlier or later.
Many current engines have had their cylinder heads overhauled and resurfaced, sometimes multiple times. This causes the cylinder head to sit slightly lower, which delays the timing. This sprocket allows the timing to be corrected. Also, current sprockets are not all produced exactly the same; there are small differences in the key position.
When using a special camshaft or other engine modifications, this adjustable camshaft sprocket is a must.
This adjustment can shift the rpm at which maximum torque occurs, affecting driving characteristics.
For racing use, the torque can be shifted to a higher rpm for higher peak power (towards 5 degrees).
For street use, a lower rpm can be chosen for higher torque in the 2000 to 3500 rpm range (towards 4 degrees).
You don’t need a dynamometer for adjustment; you can safely adjust it yourself and experience the difference.
The camshaft sprocket is designed by us for all 8-valve 2.5-liter engines of the 924S and 944 8V (Turbo) Porsche engines.
Adjustability
The sprocket can be adjusted while mounted on the camshaft. The sprocket is designed so that no modifications are needed to, for example, the timing cover.
The sprocket is adjustable over a total range of -4° to +5° camshaft This is the maximum rotation you need. It makes no sense to rotate the sprocket more or less, as you will never reach your maximum torque. It is not possible to rotate the sprocket so far that the valves can hit the piston, which could cause engine damage.
To make adjustment easy, there are degree markings on the sprocket so you can see the rotation you have set.
Material
By using the original sprocket, we can offer a cheaper alternative compared to other suppliers. This actually only has advantages because the tooth properties do not differ from the original, and the required quality is maintained.
The core of the sprocket is made of high-quality steel that is stronger than the steel originally used for the sprocket. The weak point of the original sprocket was always the key, which can tear out under poor installation or high load.
The sprocket is secured with four high-quality 10.9 M8 bolts, ensuring the two parts are clamped together excellently.
