Porsche 944 trigger wheel set 36-1 = 36-2 crank trigger

Easiest Crank Sensor for 944

The best way to install a crankshaft position sensor.

The new aluminum pulley sets the timing at exactly 90°

When upgrading, for example, a 944 Turbo, it is advisable to use a new programmable ECU, such as Megasquirt, VEMS, KMS, MSD, MaxxECU, or one of many others.

The most important signal for these programmable ECUs is the BDP (or VR) sensor (crankshaft position sensor).

Because the Porsche 944 originally comes with a dual BDP (VR) sensor, this is a difficult setup for many systems to get working. Often, an Audi trigger method using the camshaft sensor as input is used. However, this has disadvantages.

This kit is much simpler. With this ready-to-use kit, you can quickly and precisely mount the sensor on your engine block.

Features:

  • Cheapest and best solution on the market
  • High quality parts
  • Installation within 2 hours
  • Aluminum pulley with trigger at exactly 90°
  • Very solid and secure sensor mounting
  • Trigger wheel is fully behind the timing cover and thus protected from dirt
  • Suitable for cars with and without air conditioning
  • Suitable for 924S, 944, 944T
  • Each bracket is manually checked for correct position

Installation

  1. Set the crankshaft to BDP, TDC. Check camshaft gear and flywheel markings (underside)
  2. Loosen crankshaft bolt, using the crankshaft locking tool which is placed where the starter motor is located.
  3. Remove the alternator pulley by loosening the 4 bolts. Leave the balance shaft wheel in place.
Now weld the trigger wheel yourself in the correct position or replace it with the new aluminum pulley
  4. Mount the pulley and position the missing tooth at about 90 degrees after the sensor.
  5. Mount the sensor bracket on the engine block
  6. The timing cover (on later models) may need to be modified by cutting off the unused plastic part, see photo
  7. From the front timing cover, after marking, 1 cm of plastic can be removed to make a hole for the sensor.
  8. Adjust the sensor to 0.8mm from the trigger wheel with the connector facing upwards and secure with the bolts.
  9. Reassemble everything

Welding the trigger wheel yourself

For installation, this must be fixed with 4 small welds on the back of the existing alternator pulley.
