Porsche 928 automatic gear selector repair kit

Almost every automatic 928 suffers from this problem, so check yours. The gear selector develops cracks at the base, causing it to feel somewhat loose. Slide the rubber boot off the base and inspect the selector.

The base of the gear selector can even come loose where it is mounted. We encountered this problem on a 1995 928 GTS.

There are three ways to solve this problem: 

1. Trying to repair it with glue, which lasts for two days.

2. Buying a new gear selector for €400 (!)

3. Buying this repair kit.

We developed a mounting block that fits perfectly around the underside and serves as additional reinforcement for the gear selector. Clamping it in place with the included extended bolts reduces the force on the plastic, so it will no longer break as quickly. Early models from 1977–1984 have a different gear selector design, so this repair is not suitable for them.

Advice:

We recommend installing this block preventively before it is too late. You can optionally order a strong plastic epoxy with it if you have only just discovered that this product exists and your gear selector is almost completely broken. The block can be glued in place with the epoxy for extra strength. This is not necessary if no cracks have formed yet.
