When should you replace the Porsche 928 engine mounts?
Worn or sagging engine mounts can often be identified by increased vibrations in the body, especially when idling. The engine may also feel less smooth while driving. Because this develops gradually, many 928 drivers get used to the vibrations and only realize after replacement how significant the difference actually is.

Always replace both engine mounts
For the Porsche 928, it is strongly recommended to replace both engine mounts at the same time. Removing and installing them takes relatively much time, and when one engine mount has sagged, the other is usually also worn or weakened. By renewing both mounts at once, the engine sits level again and vibrations are absorbed evenly.
This prevents additional work later and ensures the best result after installation.
Installation tip: steel power steering rack line
During installation, a steel power steering rack line may come into contact with the engine mount. This can easily be resolved by carefully bending the line slightly to create sufficient clearance.
Another solution is to shorten the engine mount stud on that side by approximately 5 mm before installation. This creates additional clearance and prevents the line from touching the engine mount.
After installation, always check that there is sufficient clearance around the engine mount and the power steering rack line.
